Law school teaches through the Socratic method — professors ask questions, students reason through problems, and learning happens through discussion. The problem is scale. A professor with 80 students in a torts class can’t give each one individualised feedback on their essay responses. Students write practice essays and either self-assess (unreliably) or wait weeks for graded feedback (too late to be useful for learning).

This is the gap we addressed with EmanuelAYCE — a comprehensive study platform for law school students that includes an AI tutor specifically designed to review responses to issue-spotting essay questions.

Issue-spotting practice with AI feedback is the highest-value application. Law school exams test a specific skill: reading a fact pattern and identifying the legal issues it raises. This skill requires practice, and practice requires feedback. EmanuelAYCE’s AI tutor provides both — students write responses to practice fact patterns, and the AI evaluates their work against instructor-defined criteria: which issues they identified, which rules they applied correctly, where their analysis went wrong.

The feedback is step-by-step and personalised. Instead of a grade and a model answer, students get guidance like “You correctly identified the negligence issue but didn’t address the question of causation. Consider whether the defendant’s action was the proximate cause of the plaintiff’s injury.” This guided approach builds the reasoning skill rather than just measuring it.

The key difference is the user relationship with uncertainty. Legal practitioners need definitive answers — they’re making decisions based on what the AI tells them.
